DVD - Daws Butler: Voice Magician

This PBS Special Has Not Been Seen
For More Than 20 Years!

daws-butler-dvd-coverAfter an amazing voiceover panel discussion at a San Diego Comic-Con, I happened to overhear someone talking about a DVD interview with Daws Butler and boy did my ears perk up! Turns out that this person was the producer of a PBS special that aired in 1988, about six months before Daws passed.one-hour special is titled "Daws Butler: Voice Magician," and it's chock full of interviews with Daws, June Foray, Stan Freeberg, Joe Hanna, William Barbera, and many others who worked with Daws. Daws talks about how he became a voice actor and reveals many of his techniques in this program. The producer had an arrangement with Daws, that he would show him the edited, and if Daws didn't like it, the tapes would be burned. As it turns out, Daws loved it! The program was then sold to PBS where it aired only once, in 1988.

After it aired, the master videotape went into storage in the producer's private vault where it stayed fordozen years. Well, as you've probably guessed by now, I managed to work out a deal with the producer . . . and now, you can have this incredible piece of voiceacting history for your very own, to add to your DVD library—at a VERY reasonable price.

When it came to animation voices, Daws Butler was to Hanna-Barbera Studios as Mel Blanc was to Warner Brothers. Daws spoke the words for most of the classic Hanna-Barbera characters: Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quickdraw McGraw, Elroy Jetson, and a hundred others. He also originated the vocal character of Cap'n Crunch and other famous Jay Ward cartoon characters. His significant work with Stan Freberg in the 1950s on The Stan Freberg Show and multi-million-selling records such as St. George and the Dragonet are still held in reverence today.

Now you can have this piece of voiceover history to relive again and again. If you want to learn from one of the Voiceover Greats, or you’re a Daws Butler fan . . . or even if you’ve never heard of Daws Butler . . . you’ll want to add Daws Butler: Voice Magician to your library today.
