Take the Next Step:
If you’re ready to learn more, your next step is to get a copy of my book, The Art of Voice Acting. I’ve received email from dozens of people who tell me they take my book with them everywhere they go and many tell me they’ve read it three or four times… and get something new with each read-through. This book is used by more than two dozen universities and is considered the “go-to” reference work in the area of voice acting. The Art of Voice Acting is a required text for our P.I.E workshops.
Do a Little Research:
You’ve probably noticed that VoiceActing.com is a very big website… there’s a LOT of information here. We want you to be well-informed as you enter the world of voice acting. The Resources and Reference area of this website includes more than 100 articles on voiceover, lots of links to VO coaches around the US, and a lot more. Plus, if you have James Alburger’s The Art of Voice Acting book, you’ll find all the recordings from every edition, scripts, missing chapters, and more in the AOVA Extras area.
Take a Workshop:
For more than three decades, we’ve been working with performers and business people to improve their performance behind the microphone; on stage; radio; on camera for film and television; at meetings, and in the board room. If you’re serious about learning the craft and business of voiceover, we’re here to help with training for all levels of experience taught by James R. Alburger and Penny Abshire. Our P.erformance I.ntensive E.vent (P.I.E.) workshop is our entry level training, taught in San Diego and occasionally as an online video conference series. P.I.E. includes a series of more than 5 1/2 hours of webinar training.
Build Your Home Studio:
If you’re going to work in voiceover, you will need a personal home recording space – aka Home Studio. We have two resources that will help you learn about the equipment and how to make your home studio sound great: The Studio Savvy Session Live is taught the evening before every P.I.E. workshop. And the Studio Savvy Session webinar is currently in production. Choose either one to learn more about how your home studio works than you ever wanted to know.
Become a VO Master:
About once a year, we teach an intensive event devoted to mastering the business of voiceover. This is a 3-day advanced workshop during which we cover every aspect of your voiceover business… except performance! You’ll leave this Masters Class with a comprehensive plan for building, branding and marketing your voiceover business, including how to get past the gate-keepers, how to create compelling email and much more.
Learn at Your Convenience:
We know some people simply can’t get away from their family or day job long enough to take a workshop, so we’ve put a lot of our training online in the form of recorded webinars. For example, the six webinars that go with our P.I.E. workshop are available as a stand-alone series of webinars. Our “Avoiding the Audition Abyss” webinar covers more than 50 potential audition mistakes that you need to know about. And we’ll have more webinars going online in coming months.
Get Training that’s Unique to You:
A voice acting workshop will give you the fundamental skills you need to work in voiceover. However, to really excel, you’ll need to hone those basic skills to a point where they are instinctive. For most voice talent, that means personalized coaching. One-on-one coaching, either in person or via the Internet, will help you reach your goals and start booking VO work much faster than trying to figure things out on your own.
Group Coaching & Ongoing Support:
While personalized coaching will help you launch your VO career quickly, you’ll still have lots of questions. We created Conductor’s Club to be an ongoing resource for information, assistance, and training as you build your voiceover business. Our weekly video conference calls cover every aspect of voiceover and frequently include mastermind sessions and personalized coaching. For about the price of a nice dinner out each week, you can stay at the top of your game with membership in Conductor’s Club.
Learn from the Best in the Business:
The VoiceOver International Creative Experience, commonly known as the VOICE Convention was first held in 2007. Since then, literally dozens of the top voiceover talent, coaches, consultants, authors and technical advisers have presented programs at VOICE. Following each convention, the seminar recordings were originally limited to attendees only. But now, you can learn from the top voiceover professionals who have presented programs at VOICE. Take a look HERE at everything you can learn from VOICE.
Prepare for Your VO Demo the Right Way:
Before you produce your demo, you need to know your niche, who you will be marketing to, and much more. In other words, before you step into the booth for your demo session, you need to know what you’re doing! Penny Abshire’s eBook, Demo and Marketing Magic for Voice Actors will give you the essential information you need in order to prepare for your demo production, whether you have it produced at VoiceActing Studios or somewhere else. You’ll also learn some business basics. While Penny’s eBook will prepare you for your demo, Maxine Dunn’s Voice-over Marketing Made Easy will prepare you for doing business as a voice actor.
When You’re Ready for Your Demo:
James Alburger has been producing voiceover demos that get his students work for more than 20 years. He’s an 11-time Emmy Award recipient for audio production and knows what the talent buyers are looking for in a demo. VO demos are produced through our VoiceActing Studios production facilities. Give a listen to some of the dozens of VO demos James has produced… then book your demo session today.
Learn About the Business of Voiceover:
We teach a Masters class on the craft and business of voiceover, but only once a year or so. Our good friend Maxine Dunn has created an online course that will walk you through the business side of voice acting and help get your voiceover business off to a solid start. Maxine’s Voice-Over Marketing Made Easy is highly recommended as a supplement our P.I.E. workshop and is a required add-on for our Mastering the Business of Voiceover event.
Build Your Client Base:
When you’re ready to put your voiceover business into high gear, you’ll definitely want to take Jonathan Tilley’s League of List Builders 6-week course. This is an intensive course that covers everything you need to know about how to set up your business, reach out to new prospects, and much, much more. Start off by signing up for Jonathan’s FREE training series to get a taste of what you’ll get in the full course. Understand Your Gear:
Understanding how to hook up your equipment and trouble-shoot noise and other problems is critical to keeping your voiceover recordings at top quality. It’s expected that you will be able to record and deliver recordings that sound like they were done at a major recording studio. You’ll be able to do just that when you have the Voice Actor’s Guide to Professional Home Recording eBook in your library.
Purchase Your Equipment:
You’ve got to get your gear somewhere! Why not VoiceActing.com? It only makes sense!
We’re in the process of setting up a way for you to purchase all the equipment for your personal home recording space directly through VoiceActing Academy… and save money while you do it. Make sure your name is on our email list so you will receive the announcement of our VO Gear store coming soon.
Make Great Recordings:
VoiceActing Academy is extremely pleased to have collaborated on the design of the Vocal Booth to Go Carry on Vocal Booth. When we say this is “The Perfect Portable Voiceover Track Booth,” we mean it! Whether you’ve got limited space at home, troublesome acoustics, or you need to record while traveling… the Carry on Vocal Booth will allow you to make great recordings in just about any room. It’s acceptable as carry-on luggage for air travel and takes less than 30 seconds to setup or break down.
Talk About More than Just Your Voice:
As a voice actor, one of your primary goals is to market yourself as a voiceover performer – and when the only thing you can talk about is your voice… marketing can be very challenging. Cigma Media (www.CigmaMedia.com) is the production unit of VoiceActing, LLC. As an associate producer working with Cigma Media, you will be able to open doors to new prospects and customers you might never have talked to before, and earn commissions and talent fees for the work you bring to us. Click HERE or on the image above for all the details. It’s completely free and you are under no obligation to use your Associate Producer position if you decide its not right for you.
Is Your Website Doing its Job?:
As a voice talent, you need a website! VoiceActing Academy can help you get your website up and running through our MagicInet web services unit. We can help with everything from registering your domain name to hosting your site to designing and building your website. If you’re not happy with your current website, we can re-design it for you. Why not take a look at what VoiceActing Academy can do for you. Click the image to learn more and see some of our sites.
Email is One of Your Marketing Keys:
Nobody will know you exist unless you market and promote yourself… and in today’s world, that means email. We’ve found, what we consider to be the most affordable, and most comprehensive email service anywhere… and it’s really easy to use! If you’re currently using Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, Aweber or some other email service, you’re probably paying way too much for your email service. You owe it to yourself (and your pocketbook) to check out MailerLite.
When You Need to be Seen… Not Just Heard
Meeting and working face-to-face with your clients will always be more productive than trying to do the same thing over the phone or via email. Zoom Video Conferencing is among the top-rated video meeting services that gives you a very stable picture and sound, screen sharing, chat, and much, much more. We use Zoom for all of our Conductor’s Club conference calls and P.I.E. in the Sky online performance workshops. We also use Zoom for client sessions and when working remotely for coaching and directing.
Make Money by Booking Out Your Home Studio
Ever need a studio to record a session while traveling? How about booking your personal home studio during “down time?” Or maybe you just want to meet other voice talent when you’re on vacation. Voiceover Studio Finder gives you a way to do all of this. And your free listing allows you to post your personal voiceover or studio profile complete with a demo and description. For a nominal annual fee, you can add additional demos, a longer profile and more.
