You’ve got to be able to hear what you are doing. A comfortable pair of headphones will work nicely, but you might want to also consider investing in a good pair of studio monitor speakers - especially if you are recording your voice tracks for the highest quality. A good pair of headphones and good monitor speakers will reveal every nuance of your performance and any extraneous sounds that need to be fixed before sending your voice track to your client.
If you’re using headphones - and you’re any distance from your mixer or USB interface, you might need an extension cord for your headphones. Your equipment will determine the type of connectors on either end of your extension cable: 1/4” male or female, or 1/8” male or female. Headphone extension cables are generally stereo and can have the same size connector on both ends or different sizes. Most audio equipment dealers stock headphone extension cords.
