The VoiceActing Academy Performance Intensive Workshop, Mastering the Business of Voiceover, Advanced Copy Workout, and many of our Guest Workshops are held at VoiceActing Studios in Rancho Penasquitos, CA. Unless you’ve received other location details, you’ll be coming here!

The easiest way to get here is to simply put our address into your phone’s GPS navigation and let the lady in your phone guide you. But, for those of you who like the old-fashioned way… just click on a tab for specific directions:
Arriving at San Diego Lindbergh Field:
All major rental car services are available at Lindbergh Field if you choose to rent a car.
If you are visiting from out-ot-town and choose to stay in the Downtown area, check for an airport shuttle service to/from your hotel. If you are attending a San Diego workshop, we recommend staying in the Rancho Penasquitos (PQ) area since Downtown and Mission Valley are about a 30-minute drive to PQ.
If you’ll be staying at a hotel near our studio, there are numerous options including rental car, Uber, Lyft, Taxi and other shuttle services.
We recommend staying at the La Quinta in Rancho Penasquitos. It’s about one mile from where PIE is held and if you travel by Uber or Lyft, let us know and we’ll pick you up both mornings.

If you are driving to our event either from within San Diego County, or from the North, South or East, the following directions will guide you to our door.
From Airport and Downtown San Diego
Coming from Lindbergh Field airport or downtown San Diego
Leaving the airport car rental lot, navigate to I-5 – you can go North or South (recommended):
Take I-5 South to 163 North – Stay in the right lane on I-5 South.
Take 163 North until it merges with I-15 and continue North.
Or… leaving airport car rental lot…
Take I-5 North to I-8 East to 163 North until it merges with I-15.
Continue North on I-15 to Rancho Penasquitos/Poway Road exit.
LEFT at end of ramp and go up the hill to Carmel Mtn Rd. (first intersection after going under Rt. 56 bridge) – Look for the car wash on your right, just after going under the Rt. 56 bridge.
RIGHT on Carmel Mtn. Rd. to 2nd light (Freeport Rd.).
LEFT on Freeport Rd. to 13639 – right side of street about 200 yards up the hill.
If you are carpooling from the south, you can take the HOV Carpool lane, which will exit at Ted Williams Pkwy/Route 56. Take Rt. 56 WEST and follow directions as if coming from the North.

From South
From South – Southern parts of San Diego County or Mexico (South of Downtown):
(South of I-8: take 805, I-5, or I-15 North and follow directions below).
I-5 North to 163 North or Rt 56 East then follow From North (NOTE: 805 and 52 will take longer).
805 North to I-15 North or 163 North (if you missed I-15).
From East
From East – Eastern parts of San Diego or driving in from Arizona:
Take I-8 or 52 West to I-15 and follow directions as coming From South.
Or…
Take I-10 to 215 South and follow directions as coming From North. The 215 South will eventually merge with I-15 South.
From North
From North – For those of you coming in from Los Angeles, Riverside, Las Vegas, etc.:
I-15 south to Ted Williams/Rt. 56
WEST on Rt. 56 to first exit – Rancho Penasquitos Bl.
At bottom of ramp – GO STRAIGHT – DO NOT TURN
You are now on Carmel Mtn. Rd.
Go East to 2nd light (Freeport Rd.)
LEFT on Freeport Rd. to 13639 – right side of street
Alternate Routes coming from North (Orange County, LA):
There are three routes coming South from areas North of San Diego:
- Take 10, 91 or 210 East to I-15 and travel South towards San Diego, following directions as coming From North.
Or… - Take I-5 South to 78 East, then exit on I-15 South. Follow directions as coming From North.
Or… - Take I-5 South to 56 East. See directions for coming From Coast.
From Coast
From Coast – or coming from Interstate 5:
If you are coming from San Diego North coastal or South coastal, here’s a shortcut so you don’t have to go up to 78 or down to 56:
Coming from the North Coast (driving South on I-5):
Take I-5 South to the Carmel Valley Rd. – Rt. 56 exit (Stay in far right-hand lane for 56).
Go East on Carmel Valley Rd until it turns into Rt. 56 (about 1/2 mile). TIP: Stay in the center lane.
Stay on Rt. 56 East for about 8 miles.
EXIT at Rancho Penasquitos Bl.
LEFT at the end of the off-ramp and go under the bridge.
RIGHT at first intersection (Carmel Mtn. Rd. – Carls Jr. on opposite corner)
Go East to the 2nd light (Freeport Rd.)
LEFT on Freeport Rd. to 13639 – right side of street just after slight bend to right.
Coming from the South (driving North on I-5):
Take I-5 North to Rt. 56 East (Stay in right lanes after the 5/805 merge).
Stay on Rt. 56 East for about 8 miles.
EXIT at Rancho Penasquitos Bl.
LEFT at the end of the off-ramp and go under the bridge.
RIGHT at first intersection (Carmel Mtn. Rd. – Carls Jr. on opposite corner)
Go East to the 2nd light (Freeport Rd.)
LEFT on Freeport Rd. to 13639 – right side of street just after slight bend to right.

Please note that if you are not driving, their may be another student staying at your hotel who has a car with whom you can carpool, or we can pick you up each morning and return you in the evening, but only at the hotels noted:
I can pick you up at these hotels about 30 minutes before the workshop starts:
- La Quinta (1/2 mile – south) [PICKUP OK] – Recommended: Closest, free continental breakfast, best price. There’s a Starbucks next door and other food establishments across the street within walking distance.
Although the hotels below are relatively close, they are more than a 5-minute drive each way. Since I need to be at the house to greet attendees, I generally don’t pick up at these locations. If you don’t have wheels, you can arrange an affordable ride through Uber or Lyft.

- Residence Inn by Marriott – Scripps Ranch (2.5 miles – south)
- Holiday Inn Express Mira Mesa (3 miles – south)
- Quality Suites Mira Mesa (3 miles – south)

- Hilton Garden Inn Rancho Bernardo (5 miles – north)
Air BnB Alternatives to a Hotel:
Hotels can be a bit pricey, depending on the season. An alternative to booking a hotel room is AirBnB room rentals at private homes. AirBnB can be a great option if you have a car. Unfortunately, we cannot pick you up at an AirBnB rental.

- Rancho Penasquitos – We’re here. Plan on a 5-10 minute drive.
- Carmel Mountain Ranch – East of PQ – Plan on 10-15 minutes drive.
- Sabre Springs – East of PQ – Plan on 10-15 minutes drive.
- Poway – West of PQ. Closest rentals are near Rt 56 and Ted Williams Parkway. 10-20 min. drive.
- Rancho Bernardo – North of PQ. Rancho Bernardo Rd. and South will be about a 15 min. drive.
- Scripps Ranch – South East of PQ. Plan on 15-20 minutes drive.
- 4S Ranch – North West of PQ. Plan on 20-30 minutes drive.
- Mira Mesa – South West of PQ. Plan on 20-30 minutes drive.
